Aghios Sostis may not be the biggest of the Greek islets, but what it lacks in size, it certainly makes up for in looks. It used to be connected to Zante, but the 1663 earthquake ensured this place would forever stand alone. Set in the Bay of Laganas, opposite Marathonisi – or Turtle Island as it's known - Aghios Sostis is as beautiful as it is individual. Most of the land is covered with fragrant pine trees and lush greenery, while the rocky coves offer an unmistakable picture of Greece. And the beach is pretty special, too. This long strip of sand is not only easy on the eye, but it's family friendly, too. The clear, shallow waters mean little ones can splash to their heart's content. Plus it's never crowded. When you're tired of tanning, walk along the coast and you're your pick of traditional tavernas. They serve tasty Greek favourites like mezes made up of juicy olives and feta cheese, and real comfort food like stifado, or beef stew. Add a glass of the local tipple, ouzo, and gorgeous sunsets and you've got everything you need for an authentic Greek break. Here, life's all about the simple things.
